Our Philosophy
After spending years advising hundreds of students through the college application process we have identified two important truths.
First, while much of the hype and anxiety surrounding college admissions is focused on the project management, strategy, and tasks required to "get in" to a student's desired destination, this process should be one that is primarily focused on self reflection. Second, the most successful college applicants are those students who are able to transfer their genuine interests into essays, interviews, and applications.
It is a rare thing in life for a person to step back and ask the most important questions: What are my hopes for the future? Who do I want to be? What am I most proud of? Our goal is to help your student find their answers to those questions and present their complete selves to college admissions officers.
In a process that is oftentimes defined by fear-mongering, incomplete advice, and anxiety, we aspire to introduce families and students to the Appian Way of applying to college: a pedagogy focused on introspection, transparency, attention to detail, and student ownership.

Essay Editing
Our counselors help our students brainstorm essay topics, workshop their writing, and edit their drafts so that their authentic voice shines through and the admissions committee understands the unique value they will bring to campus. We support students as they craft compelling common application personal statements, individual college supplements and additional writing as needed.
Application Review
Through their careers our counselors have read thousands of applications and helped hundreds of students apply to college. Our advisors will bring that experience to bear to make sure that your student is highlighting their strengths in every part of the application. We are able and happy to assist with all of the major application platforms like, Questbridge, Common App, UC, UCAS, and Institutional (Georgetown, MIT, etc.)
Curriculum Strategy
When colleges discuss the most important parts of an application they inevitably mention the importance of a student's academic achievement and curricular rigor. We can help your student ensure that they are positioning themselves in the best way possible by enrolling in all curriculum that highlights their strengths and communicates their intellectual vitality.
Testing Timelines
While many colleges and universities around the country have moved to a test-optional method of application review, many colleges still use standardized testing as an important part of their process. At Appian we can help your student work on a standardized testing plan that will help them achieve their best score and then decide how to deploy it as part of their application.

Appian Education was founded in 2023 by educators who share a passion for guiding students towards their academic goals. With their combined expertise in highly selective college admissions and independent school college counseling, our founders have established themselves as trusted advisors in the field.
Having worked in admission at Harvard Law School, MIT, Tufts, Haverford, and Davidson, our counselors have an exceptional understanding of the admissions process at some of America's most selective institutions of higher education. After starting their careers in higher education, our founders have spent the last decade working as college counselors at some of America's most well regarded independent schools and helped hundreds of students navigate the college admissions process.
The name "Appian Education" pays homage to the street where the Harvard Graduate School of Education (the alma mater of our founders) is located, as well as the historic Via Appia in Rome. One of the earliest and most important roads in the Roman Republic, we think of the Appian Way as a symbol of the journey each student is embarking on as they chart out their future plans.
